
This tour featured some great places for walking and folklore in Lothian, Fife, Highland Perthshire, Deeside, Aberdeenshire and Angus, as well as a ceilidh dance and two pub music sessions!
Saturday: walk up Arthur's Seat, visit to Craigmillar Castle and Rosslyn Chapel, walk to evening ceilidh dance in Edinburgh and then drink at the wee folk club at the Royal Oak.
Sunday: visit Dunfermline Abbey and Malcolm's Tower, Abbot's House, Limekilns and Culross, Stirling Castle, through the Trossachs to stay at the Ben Lawers Hotel on the north side of Loch Tay.
Monday: walk to the House of the Cailleach in Glen Cailleach, pub music session at the Ben Lawers Hotel
Tuesday: walk up Schiehallion (in Scots gaelic - the mountain of the fairies)
Wednesday: walk to Lawers village, deserted from the 19th century and home of the Lady of Lawers, walk to the Praying Hands of Mary in Glen Lyon, visit Fortingall and the Yew Tree, evening in Pitlochry including the Moulin Hotel with its' own brewpub. Stay at Wellwood House.
Thursday: through Strathardle (watching sheepherding) to Glenshee and into Royal Deeside, walk the Clais Fhearnaig circuit including part of the Lairig Ghru classic drover's route. Stay at the Inver Hotel on Deeside.
Friday: over the Cairn o'Mount, old drovers road to Fettercairn, stop for lunch at Laurencekirk in the heart of Lewis Grassic Gibbon's beloved Mearns countryside, visit Catterline and then to Dunnottar Castle, stay at Woodside of Glasslaw and eat at The Carron Art Deco Restaurant.
Saturday: visit Brechin with its' cathedral and 11th century round tower, and then Forfar- the old centre of Forfarshire with its Meffan Museum and Forfar Bridies, to St. Andrews for a stroll around its medieval streets and including the university museum, St. Salvator's chapel, the harbour and St. Leonards. Back to Edinburgh via magical Dunino Glen and the villages of the East Neuk.
