Custom Malt Whisky Tour: This tour can be based around one or more locations, for instance, Islay or Speyside, or combined as a tour of Scotland, including Lowland, Islay, Speyside and other Highland malts. It builds on what is distinctive to each area and to each whisky.
A typical custom private package to the verdant countryside of Speyside may include accommodation in either the famous Craigellachie Hotel, the impressive Dowans Hotel or the cosy, local Highlander Inn with trips, for example, to the Glenfiddich, Glenlivet, Glenfarclas, Macallan, and Aberlour Distilleries. A great understanding of coopering barrels can be gained from watching the experts at the Speyside Cooperage.
A typical four day custom, private package to the delights of the Island of Islay may include a Dinner, Bed &Breakfast stay at the Port Charlotte Hotel with great pub and superb food, and distillery visits, for example, to Lagavulin , Ardbeg and Laphraoig on one day, and Bruichladdich, Bunnahabhainn and Caol Ila on another. This can be combined with a trip down to Campbeltown to sample the wonderful Springbank in situ and/ or Scotland's only triple distilled Scotch whisky, Auchentoshan in the old shipbuilding town of Clydebank.
Over the past six years whisky experiences have been customised with for example: conference facilities, for a Swedish company (2004 and 2005); a Speyside tour as above with an additional stay in Perthshire at the Moulin Hotel in Pitlochry thus taking in its own wee brew pub as well as Edradour and Blair Atholl Distilleries; a tour in 2008 starting In Aberdeen and taking all the 'wee-est' roads to culminate (triumphantly) in Islay (doing some superb walking and fish eateries along the way); in 2009, a return tour for three happy Canadians covering all the distilleries of Islay in one day (with little walking but a certain aplomb!)
For more than six people, your whisky guide and raconteur will be Scotsman, Jock Shaw, twice whisky nosing and tasting champion of the Netherlands. Jock specialises in combining his extensive whisky knowledge with his own brand of 'cabaret' storytelling and musical entertainment. Jock can also do whisky masterclass tours for established groups of Speyside, Highland, Lowland, Islay whisky (and whiskey) lovers.
